Friday Finishes

I’m so happy to share two finishes today, and both have been my only two WIPs over the last couple of months.

I started this pair of socks the beginning of February . Normally when I knit socks it takes me about two weeks to finish a pair but for some reason I just wasn’t in the mood to work of socks. I love the mix of blues in the yarn I used, which was a skein I purchased at Hobby Lobby sometime last year in their Authentic Hand Dyed yarn in the color Shibori Blue. The yarn is squishy soft but I found it a but splitty. All in all, I’m vet happy with my finished pair of vanilla socks.

I also finished my handspun Nurmilintu shawl, which I shared on Instagram but also wanted to share here too. I love how my shawl turned out and quite pleased with the striping of my handspun yarn, which is what I was hoping I would achieve when I was spinning it. I casted on this shawl January 4th and finished it on April1st. I had about a 1/2 ounce of handspun yarn left, which makes me happy that I didn’t have to play yarn chicken after all. I look forward to wearing my shawl this fall and winter.

I have been working on my handspun Nurmilintu shawl over the last few days and have made great progress. Yesterday I finished the second lace repeat and now I’m working on the next garter stitch section. I need to change to a longer circular needle, which I will do later today.

I find it interesting how the colors looks different each time I take a photo. The above progress photo really shows accurate colors. I am hoping to have enough yarn for the third lace repeat and if so, I will be able to finish it off the shawl with a few garter stitch rows following the lace panel and end with the picot bind off. I do hate playing yarn chicken, but that’s most likely what I will be doing as I get closer to the end. Fingers crossed I have enough yarn!

My sock and my embroidery piece are in the same stages as seen below. Eventually they will get completed once my shawl is finished.

My post is a little late for the day, but I’m so happy to share that I’m finally knitting again and working on my only two projects, the mate to my sock and my handspun Nurmilintu shawl, which I started a project page on Ravelry but haven’t been too good about keeping things updated. I started keeping a knitting journal about two years ago for all my notes and photos, and haven’t quite gotten back into the swing of using Ravelry.

I started knitting my pair of socks the beginning of February , finished the first sock February 15th and even though I casted on the mate, I just haven’t been working on it as I should. I have no idea when it will get finished but I’m on the foot and really don’t have too much left to go before starting the toe.

Today I’m working on my Nurmilintu shawl that I started the first of January. I am just about to the second lace repeat and as you can see above, will be started my second skein of yarn very soon. I still absolutely love these colors and look forward to finishing it soon.

I did have two spinning WIPs but they are now completed projects that I will share on Friday. I really love how both projects turned out!

Love those blues!

Yesterday morning before work I casted on a sock using yarn that I caked up last year with the intent to knit another Musselburgh Hat. I wasn’t in the mood to knit another hat, so decided this yarn would be great for socks. Because of the mix of colors, I am using a broken rib pattern to give a little bit of texture. The yarn is a skein I purchased at Hobby Lobby sometime last year in their Authentic Hand Dyed yarn in the color Shibori Blue. This is a superwash merino wool that is so soft and very lovely to knit with. I have a few other skeins of this yarn in different colors that may end up being socks too.

I am also working on my handspun shawl, but haven’t made too much progress. This WIP definitely will be my main focus this coming weekend and I hope to have it finished soon.
