I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself! I found an Ashford Traveller (built in 1982) at a local antique shop for $60. Great bargain for this much neglected little wheel. She was filthy and in really bad shape but my husband and I thought she was worth saving and repairing.
The spokes were extremely loose and there was quite a gap where the wheel was put together. She was also missing one of the maiden heads, but that has been remedied with an order I placed with the Woolery. With a little elbow grease and a piece of extra fine steel wool, I removed the grime and the badly applied stain, and sealer. She feels so smooth and silky now! My husband glue all the spokes and the clamped everything. With the last clamp placed we heard a slight pop and everything locked tightly into place.
We kept the clamps on for 24 hours and when they were removed ,we were so excited to see that everything was now locked into place and that the wheel wobble was now gone.
I can’t wait to to get the maiden heads in the mail so I can stain them and get her all set for spinning. This will be so much fun and I can’t wait to to start spinning on her!
Until next time, be creative!
